Kink Talk – What does Chaser mean?
Chaser
Chaser is slang, mostly from gay culture, for someone with a strong attraction to a specific type of person or body, for example a bear chaser who is into bears.
What does Chaser mean?
Chaser comes from “chase”, as in going after what you want. It’s slang, mostly from gay culture, for someone strongly drawn to a specific type. The type usually comes first: a bear chaser loves bears, a twink chaser twinks, a chubby chaser larger bodies. Often the chaser looks different from the people they’re into, like a slim younger guy who goes for big, hairy older men. In bear culture, chasers are a familiar and welcome part of the scene.
Is chaser an insult?
Usually not. Most people use it playfully, and many proudly call themselves chasers. It turns negative when the attraction is only about one feature and the person behind it doesn’t matter. “Trans chaser” in particular is mostly used as criticism, for people who fetishise trans people, want them as a secret thrill or ask invasive questions about their bodies.
How do you know if a chaser is into you or just your type?
Watch whether they’re curious about you as a person. Asking about your life, remembering details and respecting your boundaries are good signs. If the chat is only about your body type, if they want to keep you hidden or if you feel like a box being ticked, trust that feeling. Having a type is normal. Treating people as nothing but that type is not.
