Kink Talk – What does Collared mean?
Collared
Collared describes a submissive in a committed D/s relationship, where a collar given by the Dom symbolises the bond, much like an engagement or wedding ring.
What does Collared mean?
Collared comes from the BDSM practice of giving a submissive a collar as a symbol of belonging. Being collared means being in a committed D/s relationship, with the collar marking the bond. Many couples hold a collaring ceremony, often compared to an engagement or wedding. Some communities distinguish stages, such as a collar of consideration while getting to know each other and a training collar before a full commitment.
Do you have to wear a collar all the time?
No. How and when a collar is worn is part of what the couple agrees on. Some wear a leather or steel collar only during scenes or at play events. Others choose a discreet day collar, like a necklace, choker or bracelet, that works at the office or with family. What matters is what the symbol means to the two of you.
What happens at a collaring ceremony?
At a collaring ceremony the Dom puts the collar on the sub, often with spoken promises from both sides. It can be private, just the two of you, or held in front of friends from the community. Many couples talk through expectations, limits and responsibilities beforehand, sometimes in writing. Like any commitment, it can be revisited, and either partner can end it.
