Relationship Styles – What does Play Partner mean?
Play Partner
A play partner is someone you do kink, BDSM or sex with by mutual agreement, without being in a romantic relationship with them.
What does Play Partner mean?
Play partner is a term from the BDSM and kink community, where “play” means a kink session or scene. A play partner is someone you share that play with, by agreement, without a romantic relationship. Some people have one regular play partner, others several, and many combine this with a partner at home who knows and agrees. The connection can be friendly, warm and trusting, it just isn’t a love relationship.
What’s the difference between a play partner and friends with benefits?
The focus is different. Friends with benefits are friends first who also have sex, while play partners come together mainly for kink, which may or may not include sex. Play partners often meet through munches, parties or kink communities and may not share much of their everyday lives. With friends with benefits, the friendship is usually the main thing.
How do you set things up with a play partner?
Talk it through before you play. Cover what you’re into, hard and soft limits, a safe word, and whether sex is part of it at all. Also discuss STI testing and protection, aftercare needs, and whether either of you has other partners who need to know. Agree on what happens outside play, like texting or meeting socially, so nobody expects more or less than the other.
