Kink Talk – What does Sexual History Talk mean?
Sexual History Talk
Sexual History Talk means sharing the parts of your sexual past that matter to a new partner, like experience, practices, recent partners and your last STI test.
What does Sexual History Talk mean?
Sexual history is a term borrowed from medicine, where doctors ask about it to assess health risks. A Sexual History Talk is where you share the parts of your past that matter to a new partner, like experience, practices, recent partners and sexual health. It’s not a confession or a contest about numbers. The point is useful context, like what you’ve enjoyed, what went badly, which kinks you’ve tried and when you were last tested.
How much of your sexual history should you share?
Share what affects your partner’s health, their safety or your time together. The rest is up to you. Relevant are recent partners and testing, current infections, experience with the kinks you plan to try and any bad experiences that shape your limits. Exact numbers, names and details are optional. Everyone gets to keep some things private, and nobody should be shamed for what they share.
How do you ask a partner about their sexual history?
Ask with curiosity, not suspicion, and offer your own answers too. Try “What have you enjoyed before?” or “Anything you’ve tried that you didn’t like?” instead of asking for a number. Accept short answers and don’t react with judgment. If they share something heavy, thank them for trusting you. Health questions, like the date of the last test, are fair to ask directly.
