Kink Talk – What does TPE mean?
TPE
TPE stands for Total Power Exchange, a consensual D/s relationship in which the submissive partner hands control to the dominant partner in nearly all areas of life.
What does TPE mean?
TPE is BDSM community shorthand for Total Power Exchange, building on “power exchange”, the community term for any consensual handover of control. It describes a relationship in which the sub hands control to the Dom in nearly all areas of life. That can include decisions about clothing, money, schedules, social life and sex. TPE is usually a long-term, 24/7 arrangement built slowly over time, often with written agreements and regular reviews.
Is TPE healthy?
It can be, when it’s a free choice that both partners keep reviewing and the sub can always leave. Warning signs are isolation from friends, no access to your own money or phone, or fear of saying no. Consent to TPE is not a one-time signature. A written contract is a tool for talking, has no legal force, and never overrides the right to end the arrangement.
What’s the difference between TPE and 24/7?
24/7 describes when the dynamic runs, all the time, while TPE describes how much it covers, nearly everything. A 24/7 couple might keep a few rules that always apply, like how the sub greets the Dom, while sharing most decisions. In TPE, the Dom has authority over most areas of life. TPE is always 24/7, but most 24/7 dynamics are not TPE.
