Orientations & Identities – What does aegosexual mean?
Aegosexual
Aegosexual describes someone who enjoys sexual fantasies, erotic stories or porn, but feels little or no desire to actually take part in sex with another person.
What does aegosexual mean?
Aegosexual is built from the Greek “a” (without), “ego” (self) and sexual, pointing to a disconnect between yourself and the target of your arousal. An older name is autochorissexual. Aegosexual describes someone who enjoys sexual fantasies or content but doesn’t want to be part of sex in real life. The fantasies often feature other people, or the aegosexual person watches as an outsider instead of starring in the scene. It sits on the ace spectrum, because sexual attraction to real people is missing.
How is aegosexual different from asexual?
Many asexual people have no interest in sexual fantasies at all. Aegosexual people do, sometimes a lot, and some masturbate to them. What’s missing is the wish to turn those fantasies into reality with a partner. So aegosexual is a specific experience under the asexual umbrella, not the opposite of it.
Can an aegosexual person be in a relationship?
Yes. Many feel romantic attraction and want love, commitment and closeness. Talking early helps: about which touch feels good, whether sex is off the table or sometimes okay, and how a partner’s needs fit in. Some couples share fantasies, read erotica together or open the relationship. There’s no single right model, only the one you both agree on.
