Orientations & Identities – What does asexual mean?
Asexual
Asexual, or ace, describes people who feel little or no sexual attraction to others.
What does asexual mean?
Asexual comes from the Greek prefix “a”, meaning without. Asexual, or ace, describes people who feel little or no sexual attraction to others. It’s a spectrum, and it says nothing about love, romance or even whether someone has sex. It’s also not the same as a low libido: libido is drive, asexuality is about attraction to other people.
Do asexual people have sex?
Some do, some don’t, some are somewhere in between. Attraction and behaviour are two different things. An ace person might enjoy sex for closeness, for a partner, or not at all. Some have a libido and simply don’t point it at anyone.
Can asexual people fall in love?
Absolutely. Romantic attraction is separate from sexual attraction. Many aces are biromantic, heteroromantic or another romantic orientation. Some are aromantic too.
