Toys & Props – What does Body Harness mean?
Body Harness
A body harness is a set of straps or rope worn across the chest and torso, as fetish fashion, at parties or as an anchor point for bondage.
What does Body Harness mean?
Harness comes from the Old French “harneis”, meaning equipment, and the body version is worn on the upper body. A body harness is a set of straps, usually leather, vegan leather or elastic, that frames the chest, shoulders and torso, often joined by metal rings. It started as a staple of the gay leather scene and is now common at fetish parties, clubs and Pride, worn over bare skin, a shirt or lingerie. It’s different from a strap-on harness, which sits at the hips to hold a dildo.
Can you use a body harness for bondage?
Yes. Sturdy models have strong rings at the back or chest where you can clip wrist cuffs, a leash or a rope. In rope bondage, a rope harness tied around the torso does the same job and is often one of the first ties people learn. Only use rings and buckles built to take strain for restraint, since fashion harnesses can break. Never use a body harness for suspension unless it’s made for it and you know what you’re doing.
How do you choose the right body harness?
Measure your chest and pick a model with adjustable buckles, as bodies differ a lot. It should sit snug enough not to slip, but you should still slide two fingers under each strap and breathe freely. Leather looks classic and molds to your body over time but needs care. Vegan leather and elastic are cheaper and easy to wash. If skin turns red, numb or tingly, loosen the straps.
