Toys & Props – What does Harness mean?
Harness
A Harness is a set of straps worn on the body, as fetish fashion, for bondage or to hold a strap-on dildo securely in place.
What does Harness mean?
Harness comes from the Old French “harneis”, meaning equipment or armour, and long described the straps used to hitch horses. In kink, it’s a set of straps worn on the body, as fetish fashion, for bondage or to hold a strap-on. There are three main kinds. Chest and body harnesses are worn as fashion, a classic of the gay leather scene and now common at fetish parties. Strap-on harnesses hold a dildo at the hips, and pet harnesses go with pup or pony play, often with a ring for a leash.
How should a harness fit?
Snug but not tight. You should be able to slide two fingers under every strap and breathe, bend and lift your arms without anything pinching. With a strap-on harness, the base of the dildo should sit firmly over the pubic bone so it doesn’t wobble. Adjustable buckles help, since bodies differ a lot. If skin goes red, numb or tingly, loosen up.
Which harness material is best?
It depends on what you use it for. Leather looks classic and shapes itself to your body but needs care and doesn’t like water. Vegan leather and nylon webbing are cheaper, easy to wash and good for strap-on harnesses. Elastic and neoprene stretch with you and suit beginners. Check that metal rings and buckles are smooth and sturdy, and wash anything that touches skin or toys after use.
