Kink Talk – What does Delusionship mean?
Delusionship
Delusionship is slang for a relationship that mostly exists in your head, where you feel deeply involved with someone who doesn’t share those feelings or barely knows you.
What does Delusionship mean?
Delusionship blends “delusion” and “relationship”. It became popular Gen Z slang in the early 2020s, together with delulu. A delusionship is a relationship that mostly exists in your head: you’re planning dates and reading signs while the other person hasn’t noticed or isn’t interested. The crush can be a coworker, someone from the gym, an ex or a celebrity. People often use the word with self-irony, as in “I’m in a delusionship with the barista.”
Is a delusionship harmful?
A little daydreaming is harmless and can even be fun. It gets unhealthy when it takes up a lot of your time, keeps you from meeting people who are actually available, or hurts badly when reality kicks in. It crosses a line when the fantasy turns into behaviour the other person doesn’t want, like constant messages, showing up uninvited or ignoring a clear no. Interest has to be mutual to become a relationship.
How do you get out of a delusionship?
Look at the facts, not your interpretations. Does the person start contact, make plans, show interest without you pushing? If not, that’s your answer. If you want clarity, ask kindly and directly. Then give yourself some distance: mute, unfollow, talk to a friend who’s honest with you. Put your energy into people who meet you halfway.
