Kink Talk – What does Orbiting mean?
Orbiting
Orbiting is when someone stops talking to you but keeps watching your stories, liking your posts and staying visible in your social media feeds.
What does Orbiting mean?
Orbiting comes from astronomy, where a planet or moon circles something without ever landing. The term was coined in a 2018 article about dating and describes someone who stops talking to you but keeps watching your stories and liking your posts. They’re close enough to be seen and far enough away to avoid a real conversation. Some people also call it haunting, because the person is gone but somehow still around.
Why do people orbit?
Usually to keep a door open without committing to anything. They want to stay on your radar, keep an eye on what you’re up to, or keep you as a backup option. Sometimes it’s simple curiosity or habit, a thumb that likes everything on reflex. Either way, views and likes are not a message. If someone wants to talk to you, they know how to reach you.
What should you do if someone orbits you?
Whatever brings you peace. If it confuses or hurts you, muting, restricting or blocking them is completely fine. You can also ask once, something like “You watch all my stories but never reply, what’s going on?” A clear answer helps. If none comes, take the silence as the real message and move on.
