Kinks & Fetishes – What does Frotting mean?
Frotting
Frotting is sexual rubbing of two penises against each other for pleasure, skin to skin and without penetration, often with lots of lube and full-body closeness.
What does Frotting mean?
Frotting comes from “frottage”, which goes back to the French verb “frotter”, to rub. It means two people rubbing their penises together for pleasure, usually lying or standing face to face, often called “frot” for short. It’s most common between men who have sex with men, but anyone with a penis can enjoy it, including trans and nonbinary people. For many it’s a full act on its own, not just foreplay, because it feels intimate, equal and very close.
How do you do frotting?
Lie on top of each other or face to face on your sides, and line up your penises so they press together along the shaft. Use plenty of lube, because dry friction gets sore fast. One of you can wrap a hand around both shafts to add grip and pressure. Move your hips, kiss, hold each other, mix slow and fast rhythms and tell each other what feels best.
Is frotting safe sex?
It’s lower risk than oral or anal sex, but not risk free. Infections that pass through skin contact, like herpes, HPV, syphilis and pubic lice, can still spread, and so can anything in pre-cum that reaches a mucous membrane. Regular STI testing helps. Note that frotting is not frotteurism, which means rubbing against strangers without consent, for example on a crowded train. That’s sexual harassment and punishable in Germany.
