Kinks & Fetishes – What does Outercourse mean?
Outercourse
Outercourse is any kind of sex without penetration, such as kissing, touching, grinding, mutual masturbation or massage, where pleasure comes from everything outside the body.
What does Outercourse mean?
Outercourse is a play on “intercourse”: instead of in, everything happens on the outside. It covers any sex without penetration, like kissing, touching, grinding, mutual masturbation, massage or rubbing against each other. Whether oral sex counts depends on who you ask. Some people use outercourse for everything except vaginal and anal sex, others mean only skin on skin. What matters is that you both know what you mean.
Is outercourse safer sex?
It’s lower risk, but not zero. Herpes, HPV, syphilis and pubic lice can spread through skin contact, so condoms or dental dams still help for genital contact, and oral sex carries its own risks. Pregnancy is very unlikely, but it can happen if semen gets on or into the vulva, for example on fingers or during naked grinding. If that matters to you, keep semen away from the vulva or use contraception anyway.
Why do people choose outercourse?
For many reasons: during periods, after giving birth, with pain during penetration, with erection worries, to wait before going further, or simply because it feels good. Taking penetration off the table also takes pressure off. You slow down, explore more of each other’s body and often discover new erogenous zones. Many couples find that the orgasm gap shrinks when sex isn’t built around penetration.
