Kink Talk – What does Frenulum mean?
Frenulum
The frenulum is the small, very sensitive band of skin on the underside of the penis that connects the foreskin to the head, and for many people it’s an especially pleasurable spot.
What is the frenulum?
Frenulum is Latin for “little bridle”, because it holds the foreskin in place like a tiny rein. It’s the small band of skin on the underside of the penis, just below the head, that connects the foreskin to the glans. It’s packed with nerve endings and for many people the most sensitive spot on the penis. After circumcision, part of it often remains. The body has other frenula too, for example under the tongue, and the clitoris and inner labia have small ones as well.
How do you stimulate the frenulum?
Gently and with plenty of wetness. Try circling it with a fingertip or the tip of your tongue, or tapping it lightly during a handjob or blowjob. Some people love direct, focused attention there, others find it too intense and prefer indirect touch through the foreskin. A vibrator held lightly against it can feel very strong. Ask what your partner likes and adjust the pressure as you go.
What if the frenulum tears?
A torn frenulum can bleed a lot, which looks scary but is usually harmless. Press a clean cloth on it until the bleeding stops and skip sex until it has healed. See a doctor if it won’t stop bleeding or tears again and again. A short frenulum, called frenulum breve, is a common reason and can be fixed with a small procedure. Lube and a slow pace help prevent tears.
