Sex Positions – What does Spooning mean?
Spooning
Spooning is lying on your sides, one partner behind the other with your bodies curved together, either for cuddling or as a relaxed sex position.
What does Spooning mean?
Spooning is named after spoons stacked in a drawer, nestled snugly into each other. It means lying on your sides, one partner behind the other, bodies curved together. The one behind is the “big spoon”, the one in front the “little spoon”. Plenty of people spoon just to cuddle or fall asleep. As a sex position it’s slow, close and low effort, with lots of skin contact and room to whisper.
Why is spooning a good sex position?
Because it’s lazy in the best way. Nobody holds their weight, so it’s great when you’re tired, have a bad back or are pregnant, and penetration is usually shallower and gentler. The partner behind has a free hand to touch, stroke or hold, and the one in front can guide it. A pillow between the knees makes it even cozier.
Who should be the big spoon?
Whoever wants to. It has nothing to do with gender or size, and plenty of tall people love being the little spoon. Big spoon often feels protective, little spoon feels held and safe. Swap whenever an arm falls asleep, which it will. Tip: tuck your lower arm under the pillow instead of under your partner’s neck.
