What does Pet Play mean?
Pet Play is an English term from the kink community, built on “pet”, a tame animal kept for company. It describes one partner taking on an animal persona, such as a puppy, kitten or pony, often with an owner or handler. Some go all in with hoods, tails, ears, mitts and a collar, others just enjoy being called “good girl” or “good boy” and given treats. Puppy play and pony play have their own scenes with meetups and contests.
Is pet play sexual?
It can be, but often it isn’t. For many, pet play is about headspace: switching off human worries and being playful, simple and cared for. Others mix it with dominance, training and sex. Both are valid, so talk about which version you want. And it has nothing to do with real animals, it’s humans playing a role.
How do you start with pet play?
Pick a pet together and decide what it can and can’t do, for example only sounds, no words. A collar, ears or a name tag are easy starters. Agree on a stop signal that works without speech, like a double tap or dropping a toy. Protect knees with pads if you crawl. Not sure your partner is into it? Pet Play only shows up as a match in the Consent Check if you both said yes.
