BDSM Roles – What does Pet mean?
Pet
A Pet is a submissive partner who takes on an animal role, such as a pup, kitten or pony, and is cared for, played with and trained by an owner.
What does Pet mean?
Pet is the everyday English word for a tame animal kept for company, and pet play borrowed it for a sub in an animal role. A Pet takes on the behavior of an animal and is cared for and trained by an owner or handler. It’s an umbrella term for pups, kittens, ponies, bunnies and more. Some pets love the headspace of being simple, playful and free of words, others enjoy the training, praise and treats. Gear like collars, ears, tails or mitts is common but optional.
What’s the difference between a pet and a furry?
Pet play is a kink built on a power dynamic between a pet and an owner, while furries are a fandom for anthropomorphic animal characters. Many furries create a character, a fursona, and enjoy art, costumes and conventions, mostly without anything sexual. Some people are both, but one doesn’t imply the other.
How do you do pet play safely?
Protect the body first. Crawling is hard on knees and wrists, so use knee pads, soft floors and frequent breaks. Keep water within reach, since pets in a no-words headspace may not ask for it. Agree on a nonverbal signal that replaces the safe word, like a specific bark or tap. Gear like hoods and mitts should never restrict breathing, and aftercare helps the pet come back to human mode.
