What does allosexual mean?
Allosexual comes from the Greek “allos”, meaning other. Allosexual describes people who experience sexual attraction to others in the usual, regular way. It’s the opposite of asexual. It covers most people, whether gay, straight or bi. Allosexual says that you feel sexual attraction, not who you feel it for.
Why is there a word for allosexual?
Because naming the default shows it’s just one option. Without it, asexual people get described as different from normal instead of different from allosexual. The word came out of the ace community for exactly that reason.
Is allosexual the same as straight?
No. Allosexual only says that you feel sexual attraction. Straight says who you feel it for. You can be allosexual and lesbian, allosexual and pan, allosexual and straight, and so on.
