Orientations & Identities – What does biromantic mean?
Biromantic
Biromantic describes people who are romantically attracted to more than one gender, whatever their sexual attraction looks like.
What does biromantic mean?
Biromantic combines the Latin prefix “bi”, meaning two, with “romantic”, and is used mostly in the asexual community, where romantic and sexual attraction are often described separately. It describes people who are romantically attracted to more than one gender. That means falling in love with, dating or wanting a relationship with people of different genders. Today the “bi” usually means more than one gender, not exactly two.
What’s the difference between biromantic and bisexual?
Bisexual is about sexual attraction, biromantic is about romantic attraction. For many people the two go together, so they simply say bi. The split matters when they don’t. Someone who is biromantic and asexual falls in love with more than one gender but feels little or no sexual attraction. Someone else can be bisexual and heteroromantic.
Can you be biromantic and asexual?
Yes. A biromantic asexual person can fall in love with and date people of more than one gender while feeling little or no sexual attraction. Their relationships can look like anyone else’s, with dates, commitment and closeness. Whether sex is part of it is something partners agree on together, and many ace people bring it up early so expectations are clear on both sides.
