Toys & Props – What does Chastity Belt mean?
Chastity Belt
A chastity belt is a lockable device worn around the waist with a shield over the genitals, most often over the vulva, used in chastity play to prevent touch and sex.
What does Chastity Belt mean?
Chastity comes from the Latin “castitas”, meaning purity or abstinence. Stories say medieval knights locked their wives into chastity belts before going on crusade, but historians think this is largely a myth, and many “medieval” belts in museums were made much later. Today a chastity belt is a kink toy, a steel or silicone belt with a shield that covers the vulva, with a small opening for peeing. A partner, the keyholder, holds the key and decides when it comes off.
Is a chastity belt safe?
Yes, with a good fit and strict hygiene. Ill-fitting belts chafe the hips and inner thighs, so choose an adjustable or made-to-measure model with smooth edges. Start with a few hours and build up slowly. Moisture under the shield raises the risk of yeast and bladder infections, so unlock it every day to wash and dry the skin. Remove it at once if there’s pain, sores or burning when peeing, and see a doctor if symptoms last. Keep an emergency key where the wearer can reach it.
Why do people wear chastity belts?
For most, the thrill is mental. Someone else controls when touch and orgasm happen, which builds anticipation and deepens a power dynamic. Even a short lock-up can make release feel much more intense. Talk beforehand about how long it stays on, what happens during periods and how the wearer can end it early. Some couples use it only for an evening, others for days with daily unlocking for hygiene.
