Kinks & Fetishes – What does Rimming mean?
Rimming
Rimming is oral stimulation of the anus with the tongue or lips, also called anilingus, enjoyed by people of every gender and orientation.
What does Rimming mean?
Rimming is English slang from “rim”, the edge of the anus, while the formal term anilingus combines Latin “anus” with “lingere”, to lick. It means stimulating the anus with the tongue, on or around it. The anus has lots of nerve endings, so many people find it intensely pleasurable, whatever their gender. It can be foreplay before anal sex or an act on its own, and for some the taboo is part of the thrill.
Is rimming safe?
It carries some health risks, because gut bacteria and infections like hepatitis A, gonorrhoea, herpes and intestinal parasites can pass from the anus to the mouth. A dental dam or a cut-open condom between tongue and skin lowers the risk a lot. Regular STI testing helps, and there’s a vaccine against hepatitis A, so ask your doctor. Never go from the anus straight to the vagina or a partner’s mouth without washing first.
How do you prepare for rimming?
A warm shower and gentle washing with water or mild soap is all most people need. Trim nails if fingers join in, keep a dental dam and wet wipes nearby, and talk beforehand about what feels good and what’s off limits. Not sure your partner is into it? Rimming only shows up as a match in the Consent Check if you both said yes.
