Orientations & Identities – What does pangender mean?
Pangender
Pangender describes people who identify with many or all genders, either at the same time or in changing combinations, as part of the wider non-binary spectrum.
What does pangender mean?
Pangender combines the Greek “pan”, meaning all, with gender. It describes people who identify with many or all genders, at once or in shifting combinations. It’s part of the non-binary umbrella. Some pangender people feel every gender within them at the same time, others notice different genders coming to the front. Many add that “all” means all the genders they know of within their own culture.
What’s the difference between pangender and pansexual?
Pangender is about who you are, pansexual is about who you’re attracted to. A pangender person identifies with many or all genders. A pansexual person can be attracted to people of any gender. Both use the same Greek prefix, but they answer different questions, and someone can be one, both or neither.
How is pangender different from bigender or genderfluid?
Bigender means two genders, pangender means many or all. Genderfluid describes a gender that shifts over time, which some pangender people experience and others don’t. The labels can overlap, so let each person tell you which one fits, and use the name and pronouns they ask for.
