Kink Talk – What does Squeeze Technique mean?
Squeeze Technique
The squeeze technique is a sex therapy method against premature ejaculation in which the penis is firmly squeezed just below the head shortly before orgasm, until the urge to ejaculate fades.
What does Squeeze Technique mean?
The squeeze technique was popularised by William Masters and Virginia Johnson around 1970 as a treatment for premature ejaculation. Shortly before the point of no return, you or your partner firmly squeeze the penis just below the head until the urge to ejaculate fades. The goal is to learn to recognise the moment before orgasm and gain more control over time. It works solo during masturbation or with a partner, and it’s often combined with the stop-start technique.
How do you do the squeeze technique?
Stimulate the penis until you feel close to coming, but not past the point of no return. Then place a thumb on the frenulum, the underside where head meets shaft, and two fingers on the opposite side, and squeeze firmly for a few seconds. The urge should fade, and the erection may soften a little. Wait about 30 seconds, then continue. Repeat 3 or 4 times before allowing orgasm. Firm means firm, not painful.
Does the squeeze technique really work?
Many people find it helpful, especially with regular practice over several weeks. Studies on behavioural techniques show they can help, though results vary and often fade if you stop practising. It works best combined with relaxation, pelvic floor training and open communication. If premature ejaculation causes real distress, talk to a doctor or sex therapist. There are also medical treatments, and sometimes a physical cause.
