Toys & Props – What does Pasties mean?
Pasties
Pasties are adhesive covers worn over the nipples, either for a sexy, decorative look in burlesque, lingerie and festival outfits, or simply to stay discreet under thin clothes.
What are pasties?
The name is usually traced to “paste”, because they’re stuck onto the skin. They’re adhesive nipple covers, often heart- or star-shaped, sequined or tasseled, and sometimes plain skin-colored ones worn under clothes. They’re a classic of burlesque, where tasseled pasties twirl during the show. Today people also wear them with lingerie, at fetish parties, at festivals and in the bedroom, for a cheeky look that covers just enough to keep some mystery.
How do you put on and remove pasties?
Apply them to clean, dry skin without lotion or oil, press firmly and hold for a few seconds. Many have a self-adhesive backing, others need skin-safe glue or tape. To remove them, go slowly and peel from the edge, ideally after a warm shower or with a little oil to loosen the adhesive. Never rip them off. If your skin gets red or itchy, do a patch test first or switch to hypoallergenic tape.
Are pasties only for people with breasts?
No. Anyone can wear pasties, whatever their body or gender. Drag performers, boylesque dancers and plenty of people in the fetish scene wear them as part of a look. In play, they can also be a tease: something to peel off slowly, or a hint at what’s underneath. Nipple play fans sometimes swap them for clamps or suckers later in a scene.
