What does Sub Drop mean?
Sub Drop is BDSM community slang for the “drop” that follows the high of subspace. It describes the emotional and physical low a sub can feel after intense play, sometimes right after the scene and sometimes a day or two later. It can show up as sadness, tiredness, irritability, feeling cold or shaky, or a vague sense of shame. It’s commonly explained as the comedown after the endorphin and adrenaline rush, plus the emotional weight of a scene. It’s common and usually passes.
How do you deal with sub drop?
Aftercare is the first line of defence, and it doesn’t end when the scene does. Right after play, think warmth, water, snacks, cuddles and reassurance. In the following days, a text or call to check in helps a lot. Rest, eat well and be kind to yourself. If the low lasts longer than a few days or feels heavy, talk to someone you trust or a professional.
Can you prevent sub drop?
Not always, but you can soften it a lot. Plan aftercare together before the scene, so the sub knows what support is coming. Avoid ending intense play abruptly and ease out of it instead. Keep the next day light if you can, and agree that it’s fine to reach out if the drop hits later.
