Toys & Props – What are handcuffs?
Handcuffs
Handcuffs are metal or padded restraints that lock around the wrists, the most classic bondage prop and a common first step into restraint play.
What are handcuffs?
Handcuffs combines “hand” and “cuff”, a band around the wrist. In kink, handcuffs are metal or padded wrist restraints, and they’re the most classic restraint there is. They’re a favorite for cop and prisoner roleplay and for anyone who likes the feeling of being held in place. Many people start with fluffy novelty cuffs, then move on to padded or leather cuffs with buckles.
Are handcuffs safe for sex?
They can be, but metal cuffs are the riskiest restraint for beginners. They tighten easily and press on the nerves in the wrist, which can cause numbness that lasts a long time. Never pull against them, keep the key and a spare within reach, and check whether novelty cuffs have a quick-release catch. Padded or leather cuffs spread the pressure and are much safer for longer play.
What’s the difference between handcuffs and bondage cuffs?
Handcuffs are rigid, usually metal, and lock tightly around the wrist. Bondage cuffs are wide straps of leather, neoprene or fabric, padded and buckled, often with a ring to connect them to each other or to a bed. They’re more comfortable, safer to struggle against and work for ankles too.
