Toys & Props – What are kegel balls?
Kegel Balls
Kegel balls are small weighted balls worn inside the vagina, used to train the pelvic floor muscles or for a subtle, pleasant pull during play.
What are kegel balls?
Kegel balls are named after the American gynaecologist Arnold Kegel, who developed pelvic floor exercises in the 1940s that are now simply called Kegels. They are small weighted balls worn inside the vagina, used to train the pelvic floor muscles or for a subtle, pleasant pull during play. Most come as one or two silicone balls with a small weight moving inside and a cord for removal. As you move, the weight shifts and your muscles grip back by reflex. Some people wear them on a walk or a date as a private little secret.
Do Kegel balls really work?
They can help, mostly by making it easier to feel which muscles you’re working. Holding them in place gently engages the pelvic floor. A stronger pelvic floor can mean better bladder control and, for many people, stronger sensations. Regular use matters more than the heaviest weight. For leaking, pain or recovery after giving birth, a pelvic floor physiotherapist is the better first stop.
How do you use Kegel balls safely?
Start with a light set made of body-safe silicone, use a little water-based lube, and insert them until only the cord is outside. Wear them for 15 to 30 minutes at first, then remove them by gently pulling the cord, and clean them before and after every use. Never use them anally, since they have no flared base, and skip them during an infection, with pelvic pain or in pregnancy unless a doctor says it’s fine.
