BDSM Roles – What does Kitten mean?
Kitten
A kitten is someone who takes on a cat role in pet play, usually cuddly and affectionate but with a streak of independence and playful attitude.
What does Kitten mean?
Kitten is the English word for a young cat, and in kink it names someone who takes on a cat role in pet play. Kittens are usually cuddly and affectionate, with a healthy dose of attitude. In practice that can mean curling up on a lap, purring, batting at toys, wearing ears or a collar, and earning treats or affection. Some kittens are a bit bratty too, ignoring commands just to be coaxed or chased.
How do you start kitten play?
Start small with a pair of ears, a collar or a pet name, and see how it feels to slip into the role. Talk with your partner first about what the role means to you, whether it’s sexual and what’s off limits. A quiet evening of cuddles, a toy on a string and lots of praise is a great first scene. Agree on a word that lets you step out of the role at any time.
Is kitten play sexual?
It can be, but it doesn’t have to be. Some people make it part of sex or a D/s dynamic with an owner, others enjoy it as a cozy, non-sexual headspace that helps them switch off. Both are completely valid. Kitten is also a popular pet name in D/s relationships, even without any pet play.
