Kink Talk – What does Haunting mean?
Haunting
Haunting is when someone who ghosted you never gets back in touch but keeps showing up on your social media, watching your stories or liking your posts like a ghost.
What does Haunting mean?
Haunting builds on ghosting and became dating slang in the late 2010s. The ghost has vanished from your chats, but like a real ghost, they still “haunt” you: they view your stories, like old photos or follow you on a new platform, without ever writing. It can be an ex, a match you dated briefly or someone who ended things without a word. The signals are small, but they keep the person present in your head.
What’s the difference between haunting and orbiting?
They overlap a lot, and many people use them interchangeably. Both describe someone who left but keeps watching you online. Haunting stresses the ghosting part: the person disappeared first and then started lurking. Orbiting can also describe someone who slowly drifted away without a clear break and stays in your orbit as a viewer. Zombieing is the next step, when the ghost actually comes back and messages you.
How do you deal with being haunted?
Ask yourself how it makes you feel. If it doesn’t bother you, ignore it. Likes are not an invitation to reopen anything. If it keeps pulling you back into overthinking, mute, restrict or block the person. You don’t owe anyone access to your life after they left without a word. If you’re curious what they want, you can ask once, but don’t wait for an answer.
