Toys & Props – What does Silicone Lube mean?
Silicone Lube
Silicone lube is a lubricant made from silicone oils that stays slippery much longer than water-based lube, works in water and is safe with latex condoms, but can damage silicone toys.
What does Silicone Lube mean?
Silicone lube is named after its base, silicone fluids such as dimethicone, the same family used in many skincare products. It doesn’t soak into the skin or evaporate, so it stays slick far longer than water-based lube and needs fewer top-ups. That makes it a favorite for anal sex, long sessions, massage and sex in the shower or bath, where water-based lube washes away. It feels silky rather than sticky, and a few drops go a long way.
Can you use silicone lube with silicone toys?
Usually not. Silicone lube can react with the surface of silicone toys and make them sticky, swollen or rough over time, especially cheaper ones. Some high-quality toys handle it fine, so if you want to try, test a little on the base and wait a day. Glass, steel and hard plastic toys work with silicone lube without problems, and it’s safe with latex and polyurethane condoms.
How do you clean off silicone lube?
Water alone won’t remove it. Wash skin with warm water and soap, and clean toys with soap or a toy cleaner. It can stain fabric, so put a towel down and treat stains with dish soap before washing. Be careful on tiles and shower floors, since spilled silicone lube makes them very slippery.
