What does Filming Consent mean?
Filming Consent is a plain descriptive term that applies the general idea of consent to cameras, photos included. It’s an explicit agreement on whether intimate photos or videos may be taken, what they show, how they’re stored and whether they’re ever shared. Agreeing to sex is not agreeing to be filmed, and agreeing to be filmed is not agreeing to sharing. Each step needs its own yes, everyone can take it back later, and only adults can give it.
What should you agree on before filming sex?
Agree on what may be captured, on whose device, where it’s stored and who may ever see it. Settle whether faces, tattoos or other identifying details can appear, whether files get deleted after a breakup, and that either person can ask for deletion at any time. Keep files off shared clouds and lock your devices. Never film anyone who is drunk, asleep or unsure, and never film bystanders.
Is it legal to share intimate photos or videos?
Only with the explicit consent of everyone shown, and only if everyone is an adult. In many countries, including Germany, recording or sharing intimate images without consent can be a crime, and so can threatening to share them. A group chat counts too. Not sure your partner is into the camera? Filming Consent only shows up as a match in the Consent Check if you both said yes.
