Kink Talk – What does Sextortion mean?
Sextortion
Sextortion is blackmail using intimate images or videos, where someone threatens to share them unless you send money or more images.
What does Sextortion mean?
Sextortion is a blend of “sex” and “extortion”. It means blackmail using intimate images or videos, where someone threatens to share them unless you pay or send more. It often starts with a flirt on a dating app or social media, sometimes from a fake profile. After you share nudes or a video call gets intimate, the tone flips into threats. Some scammers don’t even have real images and only claim they do.
What should you do if you’re being sextorted?
Don’t pay and don’t send anything more. Paying rarely ends it and usually leads to new demands. Stop replying, but don’t delete the chat. Take screenshots of the messages, the profile and any payment details, then block the account and report it to the platform. Report it to the police as well, because sextortion is a crime. Tell someone you trust, because you don’t have to handle this alone.
Is it my fault if I’m being sextorted?
No. Sharing intimate images with someone you trusted is not a crime. Blackmailing you with them is. The shame belongs to the person making threats, not to you. Many people feel too embarrassed to ask for help, and that’s exactly what blackmailers count on. Police, counselling services for victims and the platforms themselves know this scam and should take you seriously.
