Kink Talk – What does Perineum mean?
Perineum
The perineum is the sensitive stretch of skin between the genitals and the anus, rich in nerve endings and nicknamed the taint or the gooch in slang.
What does Perineum mean?
Perineum comes via Latin from the Greek “perineos”, the anatomical name for this area. It’s the stretch of skin between the genitals and the anus, in people with a penis and people with a vulva alike. In everyday slang it’s called the taint, from the joke that it “’tain’t” one thing or the other, or the gooch. Medically it’s mostly mentioned around childbirth, in the bedroom it’s an often forgotten hotspot.
Why is the perineum so sensitive?
Because lots of nerve endings run through it, linked to the nerves of the genitals and the anus. In people with a penis, the root of the penis and the prostate sit right behind it, so pressure there can feel surprisingly deep. In people with a vulva, it lies close to the internal parts of the clitoris and the pelvic floor, which can make light touch there feel great too.
How do you play with the perineum?
Start with gentle touch and slowly add pressure, using fingertips, a knuckle, a flat palm or a vibrator. Slow circles, a light stroke or steady pressing all work, especially combined with other touch. Use a little lube so nothing drags, keep nails short, and ask how firm feels good. Pressing there is also an easy way to stimulate the prostate from outside, without anything going inside.
