BDSM Roles – What types of Doms are there?
Types of Dominants
Dominants, or Doms, are the partners who take control in a consensual power exchange. Their styles range from strict Masters and Mistresses to caring Daddies and Soft Doms, playful Brat Tamers and Keyholders who decide about release.
What makes someone a Dom?
A Dom leads in a power exchange the sub has agreed to: setting rules, giving orders, deciding what happens next. The type describes how they lead, strict or gentle, formal or playful, and sometimes their focus, like chastity, training or pets. Any gender can be a Dom. Domme, Mistress and Goddess are common for dominant women, Sir and Master for men. A Dom isn’t the same as a top, who does the action but doesn’t have to be in charge.
What makes a good Dom?
Control comes with responsibility. A good Dom negotiates limits beforehand, watches their partner closely, respects the safe word without discussion and makes time for aftercare. Being dominant never means ignoring a no. The trust a sub gives is what makes the power real.
