Relationship Styles – What does Triad mean?
Triad
A triad is a relationship of three people where each person is involved with both others.
What does triad mean?
Triad comes from the Greek “trias”, meaning a group of three. In polyamory, a triad is a relationship of three people where each person is involved with both others. Drawn as a diagram, it’s a triangle: three connections instead of two.
What’s the difference between a triad and a vee?
In a triad, all three are together. In a vee, one person in the middle dates two people who aren’t together with each other. A vee can turn into a triad if the two outer partners fall for each other.
Is a triad the same as a throuple?
Basically yes. Triad is the term most poly people use, throuple is the more casual, everyday word. Some use triad for any three-way bond, and throuple specifically for a committed, couple-like unit of three.
