BDSM Roles – What does Caregiver mean?
Caregiver
A Caregiver is the nurturing, protective partner in a caregiver dynamic between adults, who sets rules and structure, gives comfort and praise and takes responsibility for the Little’s wellbeing and limits.
What does Caregiver mean?
Caregiver is the everyday English word for someone who looks after another person, and the CGL community uses it, often shortened to CG, for the nurturing side of a dynamic between adults. The Caregiver leads with warmth, sets structure and gives comfort. Some Caregivers call themselves Daddy Dom or Mommy Domme, others prefer the gender-neutral Caregiver. The dynamic can be fully non-sexual, built on care, routines and closeness, or part of a sexual D/s relationship between consenting adults.
What does a Caregiver do?
They create a safe frame. That can mean rules like eating regularly or getting enough sleep, praise and rewards when things go well, gentle consequences if you’ve agreed on them, and lots of comfort. After intense moments or a hard day, aftercare is part of the role: cuddles, a blanket, a drink, reassuring words. Many Caregivers also help their Little ease back into everyday adult mode at the end.
What responsibility does a Caregiver have?
A lot. The Little hands over control and becomes vulnerable, so the Caregiver keeps an eye on limits, mood and wellbeing, and stops if something feels off, even without a safe word. Good Caregivers never use the dynamic to pressure or control someone beyond what was agreed. They check in regularly outside the role and remember that their own needs and limits count too.
