BDSM Roles – What does Middle mean?
Middle
A Middle is an adult in a caregiver dynamic whose headspace sits between Little and everyday adult, more independent, cheeky and bratty than a Little but still craving care, rules and attention.
What does Middle mean?
Middle is a role name from the CGL community, chosen because it sits in the middle, between a Little’s carefree headspace and everyday adult life. A Middle wants more independence than a Little but still enjoys being looked after. Middles are often described as cheeky, sarcastic and a bit bratty. They might roll their eyes at rules, push buttons for fun or insist on doing things their own way, while still loving structure, praise and comfort from their Caregiver. Like little space, it can be completely non-sexual.
What’s the difference between a Middle and a Little?
Mostly how much care they want and how they show it. A Little often loves being fully looked after and letting go of decisions. A Middle wants more freedom, more back talk and more room to test limits. Many people move between both, depending on their mood or the day they’ve had. A Middle is also close to a brat, but a brat is a role in any D/s dynamic, while a Middle is a headspace within caregiver play.
How do you set limits as a Middle and Caregiver?
Agree beforehand which kind of cheekiness is play and which rules are real. Talk about which consequences are fine, like losing a privilege, and what’s off the table. Because pushing back is part of the fun, a safe word that clearly means stop is important. Check in regularly outside the role, and keep the dynamic within what you both actually want, sexual or not.
