Kink Talk – What does Morning Wood mean?
Morning Wood
Morning wood is slang for an erection you wake up with, a leftover of the erections that happen naturally during sleep and a sign of healthy blood flow, not of arousal.
What does Morning Wood mean?
Morning wood is English slang, with “wood” as an old euphemism for a hard penis. It means waking up with an erection, which doctors call nocturnal penile tumescence. During sleep, most people with a penis have several erections a night, mostly during REM sleep, the phase with the most vivid dreams. Waking up during or right after one of these phases leaves you with morning wood. The clitoris swells in a similar way at night.
Does morning wood mean you’re horny?
Not necessarily. Nightly erections happen on their own, driven by the sleep cycle and changing nerve signals, not by sexy dreams. A full bladder often gets the blame, but it isn’t the main cause. So there’s no need to feel awkward about it, and no reason for sex unless you both feel like it. If you do, it’s a popular way to start the day.
What does it mean if morning erections disappear?
Morning wood shows that blood flow and nerves are working. If you get morning erections but struggle during sex, the cause is more likely stress, nerves or performance anxiety than a physical problem. Missing it now and then, for example after alcohol or bad sleep, is normal. If it disappears completely for weeks, see a doctor or urologist, since it can be an early sign of circulation problems or low testosterone.
