Kink Talk – What does Vagina mean?
Vagina
The vagina is the stretchy, muscular canal that leads from the vulva to the cervix, which expands and lubricates during arousal and is not the same as the vulva outside.
What does Vagina mean?
Vagina is Latin for sheath or scabbard. It’s the muscular canal from the vaginal opening to the cervix, the lower end of the uterus. Everything you see on the outside, like the labia and the clitoral glans, is the vulva. Unaroused, the vagina is on average roughly 7 to 10 cm deep, with walls that rest against each other. With arousal, the inner part lengthens and widens, and the walls get wet. A few finger joints in on the front wall lies the area many call the G-spot.
Does the vagina need special cleaning?
No. The vagina cleans itself with natural discharge, which changes in amount and texture over the cycle. Healthy bacteria keep it slightly acidic and help protect against infections. Douching, scented washes or sprays upset that balance and can make infections like bacterial vaginosis more likely. Warm water on the vulva outside is all you need.
When should you see a doctor about your vagina?
See a gynecologist if discharge suddenly smells strong, changes color or comes with itching or burning, if you bleed after sex or between periods, or if sex keeps hurting. Pain during penetration is common, but never something you just have to accept. Dryness, tension or conditions like vaginismus can be treated, and more arousal, more time and lube often help a lot.
